Chapel of counts Tiškevičiai

Neo-Gothic chapel that stands in the new cemetery (II old) of Kretinga parish is one of the most interesting objects in the city. It was build by the last count of Kretinga Aleksandras Tiškevičius (1864–1945) in 1893. The red brick building was designed by Swedish architect Karl Eduard Strandmann. Eye-catching chapel received the highest public interest in October of 2014 when archaeologists found hidden noble remains in the basement. In one crypt were immured founder's of Winter Garden Juozapas Tiškevičius (1835–1891) and his wife's Sofija Tiškevičienė (1837–1919) remains. The nobles were buried in luxury sarcophagus.
In the same crypt few decades ago three wooden coffins were found with noble remains who lived in XVII century.
